Carrie Leanna Newell was born in Concord Township, in Louisa County, Iowa, May 23, 1849 and died in her home in Wapello, August 28, A.D. 1912, age 63 years, 3 months and 5 days old.
She grew to womanhood in the home of her birth, and was educated in the public schools of the communtiy where she lived and in the Academy in Grandview, and later in the State University of Iowa.
April 24, 1872, she was united in marriage with L.A. Reiley. They established their home in Wapello, have continued to reside in this city until death claimed her.
Prior to her marriage, she was a successful teacher in the public schools of the county. Following her marriage she engaged in school work, which she dearly loved, in the city schools of Wapello.
She had long been a member of the Presbyterian church, taking an active interest in all branches of the church work, especially in the Sunday School, where her work was highly beneficial and fully appreciated.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of this city.
She is survived by her husband, one son and four grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Christina Newell, now in her 95th year; four brothers and three sisters.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. Carl Montanus and Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment occurred in the Wapello Cemetery.
