Zurschmiede, 88, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with burial and military honors at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. He died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital & Health Services. He co-owned and operated Zurschmiede’s Market with his wife, Eleanor, for more than 40 years, He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the New Albany Boat Club for more than 40 years and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor E. Zurschmiede; two sons, William J. Zurschmiede & his wife, Theresa, and Kevin P. Zurschmiede & his wife, Paula; a sister, Marie Ward; a brother-in-law, Bill Day; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jacob & William Zurschmiede. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Lora Zurschmiede; two brothers, Herbert & Melvin Zurschmiede; two sisters, Hazel Day and Eileen Zurschmiede and a brother-in-law, Herb Ward. Visitation at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook, Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes will be from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday.
