Herbert Lee Roberts, 71, formerly of Lecompton, Kan., died Jan. 9, 2002, at his home near Berryville, Ark.



Mr. Roberts owned and operated an excavating company in Kansas for several years. He also was a veteran of the Korean War.



He was born April 24, 1930, in Topeka, the son of Frank L. and Vella Littrell Roberts. He attended Lecompton High School and lived his life in Lecompton until he moved to the Berryville area 12 years ago.



He married Geneva Glenn. They divorced. He married Charlotte Stone Carver. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Regina Adams, Eudora, Kan.; a son, Troy Roberts, Lecompton; six stepchildren, Draque Carver, Ozawkie, Kan., Lance Carver, Topeka, Marc Carver, Kansas City, Kan., Nile Scott Carver, Schama, N.M., Cherie Stude, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Quentin Carver, Auburn, Kan.; four brothers, Bob Roberts, Cedarville, Calif., Frank Roberts, Silverton, Ore., Don Roberts and Jimmie Roberts, both of Topeka; two sisters, Kay Roscoe, Berryville, and Fran Rude, Jefferson, Ore.; his mother, Vella West, Jefferson, Ore.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be in Pension Mountain Cemetery near Berryville.
