Derald E. Morgan, 67, died peacefully on Saturday, March 5th, 2011 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Nebraska. Derald was born on July 4th, 1943 in Alliance, Nebraska to Mason Eugene and Lillian Louise (Kohrman) Morgan.

His siblings include: Myrtle & (Phillip) Burney of Hermosa, SD; Donna & (Ron) Burney of Rapid City, SD; and Joyce & (Ed) Taylor of Kearney, NE.

Derald joined Joyce (Schnell) Morgan in marriage on September 27th, 1964 and to that union was born Bryan Eugene Morgan on September 11th, 1965.

Following high school graduation in 1960, Derald joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Japan on the Oriskany Carrier #34, working in the engine room. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He received a Bachelors of Science in Education in January of 1971 and then a Masters of Science in Education in May of 1971 from Chadron State College. While attending college, Derald was employed at the Chadron Police Department and later worked as an 8th grade math teacher. In 1971 he began his lifelong career as the Alliance Middle School Principal. He dedicated 34 years to helping young kids achieve success and learn to be productive citizens as adults.

As a hardworking, devoted family man, he balanced refurbishing houses and spending time watching his grand-daughters Kayla and Madison at their sporting/school events. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and reminiscing with friends. One of his fondest memories was roto-raking the Game and Parks Commission lawn in the summer with Bryan. He truly loved his family.

His survivors include his son Bryan (Courtney) Morgan of Alliance; grandchildren Kayla and Madison Morgan and step grandchildren Haley and Cole Hoxworth; life partner Bonnie James; sisters Myrtle (Phil) Burney, Donna (Ron) Burney and Joyce (Ed) Taylor; nephews Rick (Sharon) Burney of Springfield, MO, Duane (Shelley) Burney of McPherson, KS, Gary (Lori) Burney of Parker, CO and nieces Carolyn Hance of Kearney, NE, Wanda (Jeff) Bender of Prosser, WA, Kari (Suleiman) Bello of Bellevue, NE, Ronda (Ed) Blomendahl of Lake Forest, CA, Sandee (Jesse) Beck of Rogers, AR, Gail Burney of Olathe, KS; sisters-in-law Sharon (Leroy) Wonch of Texas and Joyce (Ellis) Charles of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mason Eugene Morgan and Lillian Louise Morgan; and sisters-in-laws, Loretta (Dale) Christensen and Norma Ackerman.

Burial with military honors was in the Alliance Cemetery, Alliance, NE.
