Bill received a bachelor's and a master's degree in geology from the University of Missouri after return from serving in World War II receiving five bronze stars for valor. He and Joan L Tilley married on 2 Jun
On June 2, 1951, in Columbia, Missouri. He worked as a geologist with Pure Oil, Pubco Petroleum and Exeter Drilling Company with him becoming an independent geologist consultant in 1965 relocating from Albuquerque,NM to Casper, Wyoming.
He was a member and officer of many profession organizations including The Independent Petroleum Association of America, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and a life-long member of the Wyoming Geological Association.
