At just 16 she fell in love with the handsome Jack Floyd and they married in May 1951 a few months after he had enlisted in the Army. He left for the Korean War and was killed in action at the end of August leaving his bride of 3 1/2 months.
By Oct 1953 Beverly had also joined the Army, was released in Sep 1955, only to re-enlist in Dec 1955 and be released again in Apr 1957 just after her marriage to Frank Carl Spigelmyre.
Joyce passed away on February 9, 2002 at her Madera home surrounded by her family. She was 67 and a lifelong resident of Madera where she was a homemaker and formerly operated a temporary staffing agency, called S.O.S.. Joyce graduated from Madera High School and attended both Fresno City College, and C.S.U. Fresno. She served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1957, having been stationed in Japan. Active in the community of Madera, Joyce was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, the Emblem Club and the Madera Road Agents. She was a former member of the Madera Chamber of Commerce.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 46 years, Frank Carl Spigelmyre of Madera; her daughters,Melanie Spigelmyre of Fresno and Valerie Flower of Madera; her brother Bart Harrell of Madera; and her grandchildren, Amber and Andrew Flower of Mesa, AZ.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Jay Chapel in Madera.
