Gladys was the older of two daughters born to Herbert G. & Catherine (Rosik) Behrmann.

Gladys married Leland John Gruber; born in Nebraska, he was the third of six children born to Walter G. & Elizabeth Gruber.

Leland ("Lee") enlisted on 6 August 1942 & served as a Machinist Mate (MM) in the US Navy on a number of ships during WW-II; achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5) before being honorably discharged on 2 October 1945.
