Obituary - George Roger Ackley 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born April 10, 1928, in Smithfield, Utah, to Mary Nelson and Preston J. Ackley.
He attended Cache County schools, and at a young age traveled to Texas to help his Uncle Clarence.
He served in the U.S. Army from January 1947 to July 1948.
He married the love of his life, Thelma Gessell, on Dec. 4, 1948. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple.
As a young man he loved to play the guitar and sing for his family and friends. He loved fishing and the outdoors. We will never forget the fun and happy adventures we had while camping.
He is survived by his eternal sweetheart Thelma Gessel Ackley; one brother, Preston; two sons, Roger Ackley and Robert Ackley; two daughters, Pat (Robert) Wendt and Jackie (Rich) Saint; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in August.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elmyra Gessel and Thora Magee; and one brother, Paul Ackley.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in the Smithfield city cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, located at 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah, and prior to services at the mortuary from 12 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
