Daughter of Robert A Casey and Evelyn Shellenberger. Ellen was a pioneer of the Trans-Pecos region of Texas and New Mexico. She helped run the Casey Mill in Lincoln, NM and witnessed the Lincoln County Wars and was acquainted with both John S. Chisum and William Bonney.

She met John L. Moore while working as Governess of the Tinnin Ranch near Toyah, TX. They were married on May 12th, 1889, and the wedding was officiated by J. Andras Fuleayrsh.

They established a farm just north of Brogado (Balmorhea) having several sections of land, cattle, and horses. John and Ellen had three sons - Joseph Tatum, William Edgar, and Robert Albert.

Following the death of her husband in 1907, Ellen and her sons worked the farm and endured many court battles to secure water rights to irrigate their crops - rights which are still in force today. Ellen was also responsible for the construction of the Moore Dam in Toyah Creek near Balmorhea.
