Birmingham News, July 3, 1950
Grady Everett Hosey of New Merkle passed away on Sat. p.m. at local infirmary. He is survived by widow, Johnnie Ruth Hosey; Parents: Mr. & Mrs. Felton Hosey; 2 brothers, Felton E. & Rayburn L. Hosey; 2 step sisters: Frances Lee and Audrey Cathryn Hosey; Grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. S.F. Massey and Mrs. Linnie Hargrove. (Note from WD Hosey: Henry Hosey was his grandfather not Samuel Massey). Interment will be at New Merkle Baptist Church.


Gradey was shot accidentally by Frank Massey when he tried to take the gun away from him and it discharged. Gradey died from the wounds. It was also reported that Frank was trying to shoot Felston and Gradey stepped in between them. He died at Hillman's (now University) Hospital.
