Sgt. Trevor Cook, 25, of Lyndonville was killed during training in the UH-1Y helicoper, known as a Yankee Huey, when it crash at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif., on Wednesday. He was a crew chief with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, based at the north county Marine base.

Cook was a Orleans, N.Y., native who enlisted in the Marine Corps in September, 2004. He was recently married.

His military decorations consist of Air Medal (fifth award), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and NATO Medal.

Five others in the Huey Helicopter, out on a training flight, were also injured.

A Marine spokeswoman said Thursday that three of the injured were treated and released from Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla last night. The other two are still being treated in a different hospitat good condition.

Trevor was a 2004 graduate of Lyndonville High and a starter on the basketball team.

Surviors include his wife, Amanda (Arredondo) Cook, parents, David and Carol Cook, and little sister Chelsea Cook.

LYNDONVILLE- Sgt. Trevor Thomas Cook, USMC, died on Wednesday July 6, 2011 after a Marine Corps' Helicopter Crash at Camp Pendleton, CA. Sgt. Cook was born in Medina on February 27, 1986, the son of David D. and Carol A. (Stalker) Cook.

A graduate of Lyndonville High School, Class of 2004, he was a Lyndonville Tigers athlete and enlisted in the United States Maeine Corps in September, 2004. He was a highly decorated Marine, who earned his sergeant stripes over a year ago. Stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA since 2004, he served two tours overseas. He served in the Pacific Asiatic Theatre in the Gulf of Aden, and most recently at USMC Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. He was currently serving with the Third Marine Division, 369th Light Helicopter Attack Squadron, also known as "Gunfighters." He loved the outdoors including golf, snowboarding, wakeboarding, baseball, hunting and fishing.

His military decorations consist of an Air Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expenditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and NATO Medal.

Survivors include his wife, the former Amanda Arredondo; his parents, David and Carol Cook; his sister, Chelsea; his maternal grandparents, Glenn and Emily Stalker; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Donald and "Cookie" and Shirley (Perry) Cook.

Friends may call on Friday, July 15, 2011 (4-8 PM) at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish/St. Mary's Church, corner of West Avenue and Eagle Street, Medina. The Rev. Joseph G. Fifagrowicz and Rev. James F. Hassett will concelebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Mary Church. Interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sgt. Cook's family is suggesting memorials to the Sgt. Trevor T. Cook Scholarship Fund, c/o Lyndonville Area Foundation, P.O. Box 545, Lyndonville, NY 14098-0545. Arrangements are being handled by the Copper Funeral Home, Medina.

~~ Sgt. TREVOR COOK LAID TO REST. ~~

The streets surrounding St. Mary's Church in Medina were quiet Saturday morning, despite the hundreds of people who gathered to pay their final respects to fallen Marine Sgt. Trevor Cook.
Cook's last journey home started late Thursday night when his body was flown into Buffalo Niagara International Airport, where his family awaited his homecoming. Sgt. Cook, 25, of Lyndonville, was killed July 6, at Camp Pendleton in southern California when a helicopter he was in crashed during a training operation. And although the death of Sgt. Cook was a loss felt throughout Orleans County, is also brought out the best in the community.
Hundreds of people lined Main Street, Medina in the overnight hours of Thursday/Friday to welcome Sgt. Cook home.
The Patriot Guard Riders, who escorted the body of Sgt. Cook from Buffalo back to Medina, dotted West Avenue outside St. Mary's on Friday afternoon during calling hours. Hundreds of family and friends in a line that stretched along the side of the church and into the parking lot under the blistering sun, waiting for their turn to say good-bye.
And on Saturday, the church was filled to capacity as the Patroit Guard again stood outside, flags waving, and members of the U.S. Marine Corps honored Sgt. Cook with a ceremonial gun salute.
Cook, 25, was one of six Marines involved in the UH-1Y helicoper accident; two other marines were badly hurt and three others sustained minor injuries. He was a crew chief with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and had been in the Marines for seven years. He spent time in the Gulf of Aden and the Pacific Theater, and returned last November from his second tour of active duty in Afghanistan, where he served about eight months. He was scheduled to return to Afghanistan in November.
In addition to his sister, Chelsea, 23, and parents David and Carol Cook of Lyndonville, Sgt. Cook leaves behind a wife, Amanda, who he married earlier this year in California.
