ALBERT POTTER OBITUARY

Al Potter, 70, of Palm Springs passed away on January 10, 2008. Born April 8, 1937 in San Francisco to Irma Louise Collier, he attended school in San Francisco and graduated from Marin Catholic High School in 1954 and attended the University of San Francisco prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1958. After his service with the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska with a major in Russian and liberal arts. In 1960 he relocated to Florida where he owned and managed a bar and restaurant in the Ft. Walton Beach area. In 1962 he moved to Seattle where he was involved in the financial management of the Seattle Worlds Fair. When the Fair closed he was associated with the Seattle First National Bank for several years. Subsequent to his banking career with Seattle First National, he was the owner of a resume service and a real estate broker with the Seattle Home Exchange Company. In 1971 he moved to Montana to assist his partner in the management of a large wheat and cattle ranch. In 1973, he relocated to San Francisco where he went back into the Banking business as an assoicate in the Security Department of Wells Fargo Bank. He retired from Wells Farge Bank in 1989 due to health concerns. During his retirement years he founded a company that provided accounting services to churches and non-profit organizations. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in San Francisco as a lay-reader, Eucharistic minister, Healing Ministry, Vestry member and Senior Warden of the Vestry. In 2000, he and his partner moved to Palm Springs. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert where he participated as a lay-reader and most recently, the editor of the "View", the church's newsletter. He is survived by his partner of 41 years, Albert C. Fries, and his sister Maureen Callon of San Rafael, CA. A Mass in his memory will be at St. Margaret's Church in Palm Desert on January 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM with inurnment in the Columbarium at St. Margaret's Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Al's name to the music fund at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.
