Arthur Nicholas Deutsch, 94, a former resident of Shakopee, died on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Auburn Manor Nursing Home in Chaska.
A native of Helena Twp, Arthur was born on Sept. 3, 1907. His parents were Math P. and Gertrude (Hentges) Deutsch. His marriage to Viola Wermerskirchen took place in Jordan, on May 15, 1935.
Arthur farmed for 37 years, and he was employed at Jordan Hardware for ten years. He was an Honorary Life Member of James Campbell Council 1685 of the Knights of Columbus in Shakopee, and a past president of the Knights of Columbus Catholic Aid. He was also a member of the Senior Nutrition Program and the Senior Citizens Club in Shakopee.
Arthur Deutsch is survived by two daughters, Darlene Menke, Shakopee, and Joyce (Cliff) Johannes, New Prague; a son, Allen (Joetta) Deutsch, Taylorville, Illinois; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Celestine Deutsch, New Prague. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Sylvester Deutsch, a sister, Veronica Hartman, three infant siblings, and a son-in-law, Lee Menke.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 7, at 12 noon, at St Mark Catholic Church in Shakopee. The Rev. William Stolzman officiated at the Mass of Christian Burial.
Pallbearers were Greg Menke, Sue Whooley, Kathy and Stacy Johannes, and Jonathan and Nicholas Deutsch.
Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee.
Visitation was at the Cavanaugh-McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee, on Sunday, and a parish vigil was held at 6 p.m. Members of the Knights of Columbus lead the rosary at 7:30 p.m.
