THELMA WREN BURLESON NUNLEY

Thelma Nunley , beloved mother, grandmother, and friend went home to be with her Lord on October 27, 2008, in San Antonio at the age of 84 years. Thelma Margaret Wren was born in Commerce in 1924 but lived in the Lubbock area from 1926 until 2005 when she moved to San Antonio.

Thelma is survived by her children, Joel Burleson and wife Kay of Fair Oaks Ranch, Robert (Bob) Nunley and wife Kay of Lynchburg, Va., Bernice Nunley Crites and husband Tom of Clayton, Ok., Alice Nunley Taylor and husband Don of Frisco, and Linda Burleson McAnelly and husband Phil of Devine; 12 granchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Tiny Stokes of Lubbock.

Thelma is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Lloyd L. Nunley of Lakeview; and her husband of 16 years, John Edward Burleson of Roosevelt; her parents, Hiram R. Wren and Bonnie Atkerson Wren; and one sister, Nell Wren Carter of Lubbock.

Thelma graduated from Roosevelt High School in May 1942. She married Ed Burleson in 1942 and farmed in the Roosevelt community until 1958. At her husband's death, she moved to Lubbock and she received her associate's degree from Merriman's Business College and began her career as a legal secretary in Lubbock. Thelma married Lloyd L. Nunley of Lakeview in 1960, and she held a variety of jobs including co-owner of Lakeview Grocery and Farm Store, bookkeeper for Anderson Grain for over 20 years, and bookkeeper/co-owner of L & T Fertilizer in Lakeview.

When no longer working outside the home, Thelma found great joy in entertaining family and friends, and her wonderful meals will be remembered by all. Thelma's greatest joy was serving others as well as visiting with family and friends. Thelma was a member of Lakeridge Baptist Church in Lubbock. In her final years, Thelma enjoyed her flower garden and entertaining on her patio.

The family would like to thank the health care professionals at Woodbridge Estates in San Antonio and VITALS Hospice Staff for the love and concern extended to Thelma over the last year. Thelma will be long remembered for her vibrant spirit, love for the Lord and devotion to family and friends.

Funeral services were held October 30, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock under the direction of White Funeral Home.
