Dorothy J. Piper, age 82, of York, NE, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Lincoln. She was born September 23, 1928 in Seward County to Willie and Charlotte (McGlamery) Whitehead. She was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Crossing High School. Dorothy and Bobbie Piper were married on June 9, 1946 at Beaver Crossing, NE. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. Dorothy was an active volunteer for many organizations in the Waco and York area. She served as a 4-H leader for many years when her children were young. She was also instrumental in forming the PTA at the Waco schools. Dorothy was a member of the York Fun Club and traveled often with the group. She also enjoyed playing cards and baking.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Roger Piper and his wife Clelia of Houston, TX, and Warren Piper and his wife Beverly of Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Beverly and her husband Donald Herold of Lincoln; daughter-in-law Betty Piper; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Wilborn Whitehead and his wife LaVona of Arvada, CO, and Dewayne Whitehead and his wife Kathlene of Salem, MA; one sister, Colya Brown of Carrizo Springs, TX. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son Virgil, two brothers, William and Delbert, one sister Sybil, and one brother-in-law.

Memorials services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Private inurnment services will be held at York's Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation as it was Dorothy's wish to be cremated. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Greenwood Cemetery, or to the family.
