At my Father's Memorial Service, the very young Minister told a story of how he used to be told by my Father that in a Military ID number, there are three numbers that they start with, 1,2, and 3. Three meant that the person was drafted. Two meant that the person was a Civilian working on a Military job. One meant that the person had volunteered for Service. People with a One in the beginning of their ID number were treated with more respect when talking to an Officer about an application for a job or advancement. My Father's number started with a One. He was very proud of the fact that he was a volunteer in the Military. He went in the Army at the age of 19 at the end of World War 2. He served in the Korean War and saw two Tours of Duty in Viet Nam. He retired in 1973 after almost thirty years in the Air Force, with the Rank of Technical Sergeant. This Service was honored at his funeral. He was buried at the Washington Crossing VA National Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania. He was given full Military Honors, with an Honor Guard and a 21 Gun Salute.
