Helen May Bird, 83, died Thursday, January 22, 1987, at a Lancaster, California hospital.

She was born May 6, 1903 in Colorado, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Rohrs) Feldman. She grew up in Sabetha and was graduated from Sabetha High School in 1921. Her parents lived and farmed in the Berwick community.

For the past 18 years Mrs. Bird lived during the winter with her daughter in Palmdale, California, and spent the summer in Sabetha. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended in Sabetha and Santa Paula and Lancaster, California.

Mrs. Bird was preceded in death by an infant son and an adult daughter, Nancy Priscilla Bird.

Survivors include a son, Owen L. Bird of Lindale, Texas; a daughter, Sara E. Webb of Palmdale, California; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, January 28, 1987, at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Rev. Charles Robinson officiated. Organist Iola Popkess played "Laura's Theme" and traditional hymns. Casketbearers were Jim Bartram, Eldon Hartter, Harold Hartter, Art Strahm, Lee Ukele and Steve Ukele. Interment was in Sabetha Cemetery.

Moving from Sabetha to Colorado, she was a 1921 graduate of Sabetha High School. Her winter home was in California and through the summer she lived in Sabetha.

She attended the United Methodist Church in Santa Paula, Calif., and the United Methodist Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are a son, Owen L. Bird, living in Texas; a daughter, Sara E. Webb, Palmdale, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, where friends may call after 1 this afternoon. Burial will be at the Sabetha Cemetery
