A son of the late Benjamn Paul and Jennie Dean Hensley, he was born Sept. 18, 1916 at Elkton, and later made his home in Verona.
He completed his education while serving in the Army Air Corps and was discharged Jan. 23, 1946.
He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and formerly served on the church council.
He was an active member of the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club. He was recently recognized as a 50-year member of the club and was a member of the Staunton VFW Post No. 2216.
He retired from the Staunton facility of the Virginia Corrections Center in 1983.
On March 23, 1946 he married Frances Herron who survives him.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Greg Mann, and a grandson, Charles Benjamin Mann, all of Elberton, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Georgia Hensley of Blacksburg; a niece and her husband, Nancy and Tom Kegley of McGaheysville; two nephews and their wives, Wendell and Marie Hensley of Blacksburg and Ron and Corrine Hensley of California; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth H. McCutchan, a resident of the Bridgewater Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Al Fogleman and the Rev. C. Bernard Troutman officiating. Burial will follow in the adjacent cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Lindy Alexander, Dwight Leavell, Jim McDonald, Vic Franklin, Ralph Coffman and Harold Wine.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Mezzoni, Lacy B. King, Jr., Hugh Thomas, Jr., Harold Sumner, Wade Woolfrey, William J. (Bill) Lawrence, William (Bill) Chafin, Jr., Howard Collins, Lurty Alexander, Melvin Huffman and the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club.
