Lee was an only child and lost his mother at the age of 25 to diabetes. He moved to Colorado Springs where he married Josephine Lee. He moved to Alamosa and worked for the D&RG railroad for many years. His first wife died and he later married Maria Onofre Valdez Quintana who was also a widow. He was transferred to Salt Lake City where he retired and then moved back to Colorado. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Club.
