Mary Ellen "Ellie" Wheeler
Hornell - Mary Ellen "Ellie" Wheeler, 75, of 330 Grand St., Hornell, died Saturday evening (May 15, 2004) at McAuley Manor, following a brief illness.
A native and life resident of Hornell, she was born April 12 1929, and was the daughter of Gerald and Ruth (Donlon) O'Connor.
Ellie was a graduate of St. Ann's School and later graduated from Hornell High School, class of 1948. She had been employed as an operating room technician at St. James Mercy Hospitla for over 25 years, retiring about 10 years ago.
She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, She was a avid reader and enjoyed working in her garden.
She was married on May 19 1951, to Truman "Trummie" Wheeler, who died in 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Jim (Christine) Wheeler of Hornell and Joe (Sally) Wheeler of Cape Cod, Mass.; three sisters, (Bridget (Jerry) Quartz of Churcheville, Marie (Edward) Schane of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Joanne Rohan of Hornell; one broterh, James (Mary O'Connor of Dansville; many cousins, nieces and nephews, including her special newphews, William Donlon and Partick Donlon, who resided with Ellie and Trummie for several years.
The family of Mary Ellen "Ellie" Wheeler will receive friends on Tuesday, May 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Chuch St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at St. Ignatius Loyola Chuch, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Ellie's family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
