He was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Plainfield, the son of Edward F. and Nellie F. (Barton) Smith and had been a lifetime area resident. Chester had been employed as a tool crib attendant for 32 years by the Joy Manufacturing Company in Claremont.
He was a former member of the Advent Christian Campground, the Youth Extension Club and a volunteer with the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. He enjoyed crafting and had made more than 80 quilts in his lifetime. He was the widower of Ada (Stoodley) Smith.
Members of his family include several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. Graveside committal services will be held at the convenience of the family,
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 97 Maple Avenue, Claremont, NH 03743.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 93 Sullivan St., in Claremont.
