Dennis Ray Deel passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011, in Denver, Colo. He was born in Rotan, Texas, to his late parents, Hazel (Joslin) Deel and Dr. Wilburn Sessum Deel of Levelland, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Ina; children, Chris (Carrie), Deanna, Jennifer and Steven; and grandsons Colby, Carter and Sage. He is also survived by siblings, David (Jinny) Deel, Sandy Deel and Susie (Richard) Winegar.

Dennis graduated from Texas A&M in 1970 with a Masters of Aerospace Engineering and in 1971 went to work for Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin). In 1974 Dennis accepted a position with Martin Marietta-New Orleans to begin work on the external tank project and the future space shuttle program, a dream and a program he remained passionate about until his retirement in February 2011. Sadly, Dennis passed one day before the last and final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, perhaps securing himself the best view from above.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13th at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Castle Rock, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in his honor to the Raymond Wentz Foundation at raymondwentz.org or to the American Cancer Society.
