Elizabeth Ellen Waldie was the only child of Richard Waldie and Eva Rebecca "Effie" Frazier.


She married Thomas Morgan Jewell on 10 Feb 1924 at Oakdale Christian Advent Church in Oakdale, Athens Co., OH.


They had three daughters:

  • Norma Jean Jewell Brown (1923-1998) m. William Pearl Brown
  • Dorothy Carolyn Jewell Andrews (1926-2022) m. Elden James Andrews
  • Opal Mae Jewell Hickman (1928-2022) m. Donald Edward Hickman, Sr.


Betty and Tommy divorced some time before 1956.

Obituary


LANCASTER - Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Jewell, 61, of E. Walnut St. in Lancaster, was found dead at her home Thursday morning. She was born Jan. 17, 1907, in Athens County, a daughter of Richard and Eva Frazier Waldie.


She was a former employee of Mount St. Mary Hospital in Nelsonville and the Columbus State Hospital, where she worked as a nurses aide.


She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Norma Jean Brown of McArthur, Mrs. Dorothy Andrews of Barberton and Mrs. Opal Hickman of Amanda; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


She is also survived by two step-brothers; three step-sisters.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with the Rev. Bentz officiating. Burial will be in Glouster Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Jewell, 61, of 353 E. Walnut St., Lancaster died suddenly Thursday morning at her home.


She was a former nurses aide at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Nelsonville and Columbus State Hospital.


Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Norma Jean Brown, McArthur, Mrs. Dorothy C. Andrews, Barbarton*, Mrs. Opal M. Hickman, Amanda; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Tom Newman, Columbus, Leon Newman, Wilmington; three step-sisters, Mrs. Jerry Householder, Jacksonville, Mrs. Leona Minister, Painsville**, and Mrs. Vera Shannon, Powhatan Point.


Friends may call at the Taylor Funeral Home, Amanda, after 7 p.m. Saturday.


Rosary will be said at the funeral home 7 p.m. Sunday.


Funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at Taylor's, with Father John Bentz officiating. Burial will be in Glouster Cemetery.
