Julia was the eldest child of Julius Eschmann and Louise Roeder. For the majority of her life, Julia was unmarried and lived with her sister Matilda. For some time before 1913 she had been employed by Wilton A. Stratton, a wealthy stovemaker, as his housekeeper. Wilton proposed and they married on 24 Feb 1913 and they then took a trip abroad before returning to the United States in October. After a brief trip to Chicago they traveled to Los Angeles, California, where Wilton died. Julia died of bronchitis at the Norton Infirmary at the age of 71.
