Mr. Belknap passed away on July 16, 2009, three days short of his 97th birthday. Mr. Belknap was born in Carbon on July 19, 1912.
Mr. Belknap married Inez Pounds Belknap in Ranger on July 3, 1938. They had been married for 69 years when Inez passed away on Feb. 12, 2008.
A longtime resident of Irving, he worked as a welder for Lone Star Gas Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1972 as a construction superintendent. After retirement, he and Inez moved to Cedar Creek Lake, where they loved to fish, garden and were actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City. In 2000, they moved to Killeen and became active in Skyline Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Virginia Cowley of Houston, Janice Odom (Jim) of Edinburg, Jim Belknap (Pat) of Fort Worth, and Judy Parker (Mike) of Killeen; sisters, Jo Hans of San Antonio, Norma Jetton (Kenneth) of Clovis, N.M., and Delpha Potter (Bill) of Belton; and brother-in-law Adron Pounds of Arlington; grandchildren, Jeff Cowley (Kim), Bruce Cowley (Aimee), Jenny Berkheimer (Kenny), Jim Odom (Jamie), Gail Hutchinson (Donny), John Parker (Liz), Bryan Parker (Katrina) and Katy Parker; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Belknap was preceded in death by his wife, Inez, parents, John and Ruda Belknap, son, Jerry, daughter, Linda, brother, Melvin Belknap, and sisters, Lorene Akers and Veda Parrack.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Margaret Mendoza, who lovingly cared for J.T. in his last years. Special thanks also to the dedicated and caring team from Scott & White Hospice, especially chaplain Rodney Kruse, caregiver Val Richards, social worker Diana Flores and nurse Marie Powers.
