Philemon Henry Newman was born May 23, 1896 Sciola vicinity north of Villisca to Henry Orlando Newman and Mary Ann Haley. He died March 28, 1953 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He served with the United States Army in France and Germany during World War I, and on his return he made his home in Nodaway, except for the last year that he has spent in the Hospital in Omaha.
He was united in marriage on August 18, 1924 to Leslie Baker and to them was born one son, Kenneth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leslie. Surviving him besides his son Kenneth is one brother, Edward, and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Brannen of Peoria, Illinois and Mrs. Jessie Gray of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday morning in Nodaway conducted by Rev. J. Wilkins, burial in the Nodaway Cemetery, Flag service by Joseph Thuman Lodge 646.
