Helen Elizabeth (Toy) Goodchild, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
Mrs. Goodchild was born on November 17, 1920 in Orcutt, Calif., to the late Fred Cornelius Toy and Bessie Irene Toy. Born to a pioneering family in the Santa Maria Valley, along with her sister Pauline and brother Neil she developed a strong work ethic farming land, which is now part of the Santa Maria airport and Orcutt.
After graduating from Santa Maria High, she married Edward N. Goodchild in 1940, she enjoyed the rest of her life in Garey, Calif.
She had two children, Eddie and Denny Goodchild. Mrs. Goodchild was very involved in the community. During WW II while Edward was enlisted, she was a Civil Defense spotter for enemy aircraft. She was also active with the Rodeo, Elks club and bowling, and worked at a fashion shop and Stanley's Florist. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including fishing at Convict Lake near Bishop, Calif. Her family enjoyed numerous trout dinners from this endeavor. She loved animals, especially her pet beagles Snoopy and Dandy.
She is survived by her sister, Pauline Stubblefield; three grandchildren, Jennifer Goodchild-Camacho, Steven Goodchild, and Shawn Goodchild; and two great grandchildren, Michael Nuñez and Aliana Camacho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Niverth Goodchild; two sons, Eddie and Denny; and brother, Neil.
