The funeral service for Neil Orion Buttke, 63, Valley City, N.D. will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, with Rev. Paul Huso and Rev. Mark Ostgarden officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2764. Burial will be later in the spring in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, N.D. He died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City and continue one hour before the service in the church.

Neil Orion Buttke was born Feb. 7, 1941, in Fargo, N.D., the son of Orion and Esther (Palm) Buttke. He was baptized at the Buffalo Lutheran Church, Buffalo and later confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City. He lived in Buffalo until 1948 when his family moved to Valley City. Neil graduated from Valley City high school in 1959. He then served in the United States army from 1959 until 1962. Neil was stationed in Germany where he was a cryptographer. Upon his discharge in 1962, he returned to Valley City where he began working for the North Dakota State Highway DOT and continued to work there until the time of his death.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting, sports, especially football. He played football in high school and while serving in the army in Germany. Neil was a member of the VFW, American Legion, AmVets, and the Eagles.
