Charles E. Moncavage, 78, of 301 N. Sixth St., Kulpmont, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Golden Living Center, Sunbury, where he had been a resident for the past two months. Born Aug. 15, 1932, in Centralia, he was a son of Chester and Florence (Shriner) Moncavage, who preceded him in death.

Charles was a 1950 graduate from Mount Carmel Catholic High School. He served in the Korean War as part of the U.S. Air Force. In 1958, he married the former Jacqueline Olshefski, who survives.

Following his discharge from the service, he worked as an inspector for the Department of Transportation, and later as a self-employed coal dealer.

He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel. He was an avid reader, but his favorite pastime was talking and hearing about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and four daughters and their respective families, Charles and Peggy Moncavage and their daughters, Stephanie and Angela, of Nazareth, Sharon and John Gable and their daughter, Veronica, of Etters, Melissa and Andy Farrow and their children, Andy II and wife Amy, Ethan and Silas, and grandchildren, Tanner and Ella, all of the Shamokin/Coal Township area, Robin and Dan Jordan and daughter, Jackie and Monica, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Pamela and Jonathan Gillaspie and their children, Alexander and Claire, of Golden, Colo.

At the request of Mr. Moncavage, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Farrow Funeral Directors, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Kulpmont.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mount Carmel Public Library, 30 S. Oak St., Mount Carmel, PA 17851, or the donor's favorite charity.
