He was retired from Carpenter Technology and previously was employed by Martin Althouse Construction. He was a member of Allegheny Lutheran Church Knauers; a graduate of Mohnton High School in 1946; and a veteran of the Korean War, where he was a member of the Air Force flying Mosquitoes as an army observer and received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Mohnton VFW and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen (Messner) Althouse; three sons: Craig R., at home, Michael E. (Bernice) of Millersville, and Mark A. (Anna) of Arizona; former daughter-in-law Karen Althouse of Shillington; four grandchildren: Robin, Thomas, Joanne and Matthew Althouse; brothers Earl and Charles and sisters Marguerite Weinhold and Mary Kring, all of Mohnton. Funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m., with viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Allegheny Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, PA 17540. Interment in Allegheny Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.
