CARLIN, William J. 93,of New Port Richey, formerly of Swampscott, MA passed April 29, 2011.He was captain of his high school football team, president of his senior class and a seagoing WWII marine. Having served the Swampscott Police Department 30 years as patrolman, investigator-prosecutor and police chief, and having presided over two Massachusetts police associations, the North Shore Police Investigators and the Chiefs of Police, he was recognized by the governor in 1980 for exemplary leadership in state law enforcement, bringing integrity, intelligence, dependability and reserve to his work. He enjoyed reading, square dancing, gardening, travelling, fishing and watching sports. In Florida, he was a school volunteer reading coach and a member of the Pasco County Rose Society. On June 25, a private burial service at Swampscott Cemetery was held for him and his beloved wife of 73 years, who passed Jan. 13. He leaves his son Robert of Marblehead, MA; daughter, Janet Darling of Cape Elizabeth, ME; sister, Teresa Azrack of Miami, FL; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grand- children.
