Frank was the first born child of Vernon McLin & Maude Augusta Winn Nix. He enlisted in the US Army at the same time with his brother, Thaggard Clayton "Jack" Nix, on January 7, 1942, after the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. It is said that Frank and Clayton both legally changed their names prior to going into the Army; Frank changing his to: Franklin Benjamin Nix, after his paternal grandfather.

Frank was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where we would meet and marry the love of his life, Mary Vega Nix, of Buyamon, Puerto Rico. It is listed in Army records that Frank was a "warrant officer." Upon further investigation, his records of "Grade," and "Grade Code," are still, nearly 70 years later, listed as "PRIVATE," and will not be released. From further personal research, and discussions with family that still lives in Puerto Rico, the facility in which Frank was the head officer was a Secret Cryptography Division of the US Army, and only about 100 privately chosen women worked there decoding files and messages from the enemy during WWII. Frank NEVER told anyone of this private and prestigious position in the Army, but then, that would be OUR Frank!

Frank married Mary Vega in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on January 2, 1945. She was the middle daughter of Valentine Vega (born 2-14-1890) and Encarcion Davilan Baez Vega. Mary was born on September 13, 1914.

Frank and Mary came to Oklahoma after he was out of the Army, and made their home in Hinton, OK. They had two sons: Frank Delwinn Nix, born February 10, 1947, in Hinton, OK, and now living in Washington State; and Jack Vernon Nix, born November 23, 1948, also in Hinton, OK. He and his wife, Marie, make their home in Florida.

Mary & Frank and the goodness of their hearts compelled them to bring family members from Puerto Rico to Oklahoma, so they could have a better life. I am so fortunate that my Mom, Carmen M. Vega Ayala Nix, would be the first of them, and she would go on to marry Frank's younger brother, Garland Nix in 1950.

Frank was the oldest brother of the most loving and close family I've ever known in my life, and I just feel so blessed to be a part of this family, and especially to call Uncle Frank a "double" uncle, and his sons are better than brothers, and just as incredible as Uncle Frank was in his life here on Earth! I am so proud to call them my "DOUBLE COUSINS! What an incredible & special family!
