DEL REY OAKS - Moira C. Lafitte, 72, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 20, 2011 after her five-year battle with Parkinson's disease and related dementia.

Moira was born in Syracuse, New York to Edward Slavin and Mary Weinman.

Moira was married to Samuel Sukraw in Portland, Oregon until Samuel preceded her in death in 1982. They had three children: Michelle, Theresa and Erica.

She then married Clyde S. Lafitte on October 1, 1982 and moved to the Monterey Peninsula, where she lived happily married for 28 years. Moira loved to knit and sew. She was very talented and could knit you almost anything. Moira spent years knitting socks and scarves for the homeless and battered women, she was always very generous and caring.

She was also an avid supporter of the SPCA and donated on a regular basis as she loved cats more than anything! Moira enjoyed baking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Moira was preceded in death by her daughter, Erica Lafitte and her husband, Clyde Lafitte. She is survived by her grandchildren, Angelina F. Sukraw, Jeffery D. Sukraw and Nicole T. Balcerzak; five siblings, Rosemary Hilton, Anne O' Brian, Francis Carreras, Donald Slavin and Samuel Slavin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a private viewing on Sunday, June 26, 2011 and the funeral will be held on Monday June 27, 2011 at 12:00pm at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the SPCA for Monterey County. A special thanks to the Sunrise of Monterey staff and Angelina F.
