Albert Sharp enlisted at Augusta, Maine, for 3 years under quota of Monmouth with a bounty of $300. On 19 January 1864 he reported to the Second Battery, First Battalion, Maine Light Artillery at Camp Barry (a training depot near Washington, DC).
On 27 April 1864 he was admitted to the Lincoln US Army General Hospital in Washington, DC and then transferred to Lovell US Army General Hospital, Portsmouth Grove, Rhode Island.
On 5 July 1864 he was discharged for disibalility for phthsis pulmonalis (lung disease) and granted one-half pay. He returned home to his parents in Caribou and died 11 September 1864.
