Funeral services for George (Lottie) Arenz, 78, a retired Sheboygan Labor leader who died Thursday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, will be held at the Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home Monday at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Paul Raczynski, associate pastor of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday until the time of services Monday.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Arenz's name.
Born in Manitowoc County Dec. 11, 1898, the son of Peter and Mary Sitkawitz Arenz, he moved to Sheboygan as a child and attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School.
He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 17, 1919, to Dec. 16, 1920.
In September, 1923, he married Esther Henle. On Aug. 16, 1940, he married Mrs. Marie Glaubig, at Davenport, Iowa.
A construction worker most of his life, Mr. Arenz was active as business agent for Local 54 of the AFL Truck Drivers' Union for 10 years, and served as president and then business agent for labor union Local 80of the AFL Hod Carriers Union until his retirement in 1965.
He was a past president of the Sheboygan County Building Trades Council and in the early 1960s served as president of the State AFL-CIO Labor Conference, an organization of labor council representatives from throughout Wisconsin.
Survivors are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Imogene) Beeck, Brown Beer; one step-son, Gene Glaubig, Sheboygan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Lorenz, Oskhosh, Mrs. Frank Weber, Youngstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Al Veric, Tomah.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
