Obituary (unknown source):
Walker E. McCracken, son of James and Sarah Dean McCracken, was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, July 17, 1862, and departed this life Oct. 14, 1947 at his home in Harrisburg township. He was the oldest of a family of eight children, father, mother and three sisters preceded him in death. Those remaining are Mrs. Iowa Rankin, Mrs. Maggie Ewing, Mrs. Amy Ward and one brother, George.

He was united in marriage Nov. 19, 1890 to Miss Alice May Ward. Almost fifty-seven years of happy wedded life was their privilege to share with each other. Six children came to bless this union, three of them, Ruth, Grace and Ward Vale having passed away in infancy. Those remaining with the devoted wife and mother are Albert, Richard and Ray and their companions, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Walker was converted and united with the Methodist church when a young man. He has been a member of the Masonic Lodge. Quiet and unassuming, a kind neighbor and a faithful friend, he will be remembered by those who knew him best. He was a farmer and enjoyed being out on the farm with the boys until failing health kept him in. He was only confined to his bed a few short weeks but the Master had called, and though it is with sad and aching hearts, we say "Thy will be done."

Rev. Austin conducted services at the Bentonsport Methodist Church Thursday, Oct. 16. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gaston furnished the music. Pallbearers were three grandsons, Robert, Delbert and Ervin McCracken and three nephews, Louis and Dean Boley and Vinton Rankin.
