Lillian Bertine was born 21 Jul 1895 in St. Paul, MN in an area that was then called Gladstone. She was the 10th of 11 children born to Nels (Nils Tostensen) Thorson and Stina (Anne Kirstine Larson) Thorson. Nels and Stina emigrated from Oslo, Norway in 1881, settling in St. Paul soon after their arrival in America. Lillian was christened, confirmed and married at Bethany Lutheran Church in St. Paul. She married Oscar Andreas Ludwigson 7 Jul 1917 and they had two children, Gordon Roy and Richard Donald.
