Art Smith, son of Jerry & Louisa McKee Smith was born May 18, 1884 at Tarkio, MO and left Tarkio in early childhood and came to Kansas. He was married to Zelma Mae Houghton on March 17, 1913. They were married in Colby, Kansas and lived in that area until at which time they moved to Republic, Kansas where they resided since.
Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and railroader, and he was very definitely a family man. He had a great sense of humor and was highly respected by all who knew him. Mr. and Mrs. Smith would have celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary on the date of burial.
He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and he was ever interested in his church. He will be sadly missed by his host of friends, church and his family. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Zelma of the home; four children: Loren Smith of Hutchinson; Mrs. Irwin (Mary) Moore of Wichita; Mrs. Jay (Edith) Chambers of Goodland, Mrs. Dan (Betty) Rich of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister Mrs. Nancy Houghton of Denver, CO., fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 17, 1970 at 9 a.m. at the Bachelor Faulkner Memorial Chapel of Belleville. Graveside services were held at the Selden Cemetery, Selden Kansas at 2:30 p.m. Services were conducted by the Rev. Chas E. Ruff of the Belleville Baptist Church.
