Services for Alma Luella (Mrs. Louis) Duenow, 81, of Fairfax, formerly of Franklin who passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm were held Saturday, January 16, 1999 from St. John Lutheran Church, Fairfax with private family interment in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville county.
he is survived by her son and daughter-in-law David and Betty Duenow of Comstock, WI: grandsons Hjalmer Erich Duenow and wife Catherine of MN, Michael David Duenow and wife Garnett of MN, David Edward Duenow and wife Laura of MN: a special great granddaughter Allison Hailey Duenow; brothers and sisters-in-law August and Ardella Lentz of Fairfax, Henry (Jerry) and Emily Lentz of Gaylord, Herbert and Betty Lentz of Waconia, Leigh and Marion Lentz of Clements, Frederick and Lorraine Lentz of Glencoe, Edward and Werona Lentz of Minneapolis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna Kremer of watertown, SD, Beatrice and Ray Koester of Glencoe, Marlian and Myron Bandow of Gibbon, Barbara and Ron Rieke of Gibbon, and Evylin Herschman of Glendale, AZ: sister-in-law Alice Lentz of Grand Rapidsl many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: husband: brothers otto, Herman, Daniel and William Lentz.
Alma was born on February 15, 1917 in Richland Township, Codington County, near Henry, SD the daghter of Edward G and Mabel B (Jaehn) Lentz. She was baptized and confirmed as a youth, both on May 28, 1933 at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Henry, SD by Reverend Garhart Schmeling. She was raised in Richland Township, Codington County and enjoyed growing up with ten brothers and five sisters.
On May 18, 1938 she was united in marriage to Louis Albert Duenow at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Henry, SD. The couple farmed north of Franklin from 1938 until 1979, when they moved to Fairfax. She enjoyed helping her husband and staying at home taking care of her family. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage, before Louis passed away on November 29, 1994.
She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax and was also a longtime member of the Ladies Aid and served as treasurer for four years.
