Israel Osmun, Jr. was born in 1800 in Lansing, New York. In 1810 his father moved the family to Ohio. At the age of 19, Israel Osmun, Jr. along with his brother, Jonathan Osmun, returned to New York State and eventually settled in the Town of Ogden in Monroe County. According to Israel's daughter-in-law, Charlotte, they had another brother who settled in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
