SIDNEY BARNETT

THORN – Sidney Gaius "Boochie" Barnett, 73, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at his home. He was born June 23, 1938, in Chickasaw County to Jack "Big Jack" Barnett and Gertrude Johnson Barnett. He was a retired maintenance worker of Ark-Ell Springs, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Samuell and Bro. Paul Whitt officiating. Burial will be in Ellzey Cemetery in Vardaman. Southern Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte "Sis" Barnett of Houston; one daughter, Lucy Barnett of Houston; two sons, James Andrew "Andy" Barnett and Vickie and Christopher Lee Barnett, both of Houston; two brothers, Willie Joe Barnett and Mary and Curtis Wayne Barnett and Louise, both of Houston; two sisters, Sue Doggett and David of Lucedale and Jimmie Lou Hurst and Robert of Hernando; five grandchildren, Adam, Juli, Jana, Jonathon and Jacob Barnett; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard G. Barnett; and two brothers, Jackie Barnett and James R. Barnett.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Byars, Charley Pettit, John Coleman, Jerry Buford, Charles Rucker and Scotty Bailey.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
