Daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Bayley Baker of Olney, Buckinghamshire, England, Eliizabeth married Stephen Phillips January 20, 1838 in St George's Hanover Square, London and emigrated to the United States on September 1, 1843 with him and their first two children. The ship Quebec arrived in New York City October 1, 1843. This picture was taken during one of her pregnancies. Elizabeth died twelve days after the birth of their 5th child Frances. The bereaved father allowed Frances to be adopted by Elizabeth's cousins, the John Francis Shuttlesworth Family of New York City.
