Oscar William Arthur Baltrusch, 82, a medical doctor who founded the Same Day Care Department at Deaconess Billings Clinic, died Sept. 19, 2001. He was born in Billings on Sept. 9, 1919, the second child of Oscar and Gladys Baltrusch. He attended Broadwater School and graduated from Billings High School in 1936. He worked for Great Western Sugar Co. for three years before attending San Mateo Junior College and Washington University in St. Louis, often traveling there by catching a freight train from Billings or riding in the caboose. He graduated from Washington University Medical School in 1945. That year, he married Dorothy Jean Porter in St. Louis. Dr. Baltrusch served as a stateside medical officer in the Navy, then practiced medicine in Ekalaka. In 1949 he moved to Billings, where he practiced with Dr. Cedric Nelson until Dr. Nelson's death in 1958. He practiced alone until 1974 when he started the Same Day Care Department. He remained with DBC until he retired in 1985. Dr. Baltrusch belonged to the American Medical Association and had been president of Yellowstone Valley Medical Society. He had been county health officer for many years. Memorial services were planned for Sept. 22. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist had charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Friendship House of Christian Service, 3123 Eighth Ave. S., Billings, MT 59101.
