The only other reference to a first name for him is in a city directory for the year 1928 in Jackson, Jackson, Michigan, in which he is listed as a prison guard and his name as Leo S. Sanford with his wife, Inez A. Sanford. For these reasons, his name is listed on his memorial here as just L. S. Sanford.
