Bernard Alton Aune was born on Dec. 9, 1935, to Peder and Alvira (Ellstrom) Aune of rural Vining. Bernard was baptized and confirmed in the Vining Lutheran Church. He attended rural school district No. 33 in Nidaros Township. Bernard served in the Minnesota National Guard for over 20 years, and was a Minnesota National Guard retiree.
Bernard performed farm labor, was employed with Urbank Bait, and then worked for several years with Fergus Concrete Company.
He enjoyed visiting with people over a cup of coffee, and also loved to do lawn work. Bernard was a proud AA member for many years. He was also a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and very active with the Salvation Army.
Bernard is survived by his children and grandchildren: Tina Aune of Fergus Falls, Pedar (Michelle) Aune, Perry and Samantha of Fergus Falls, Christopher (Simone) Aune, Dennis and Alissa of Germany, Scott Aune and family of Princeton, Minn.; one great-grandson, Payton; three sisters: Jeanette (Harold) Bachman of Brainerd, Linda (Willard) Johnson of Richville, Minn., and Carol Klimek of Battle Lake; two brothers, Clarence (Donna) Aune of Brainerd, and Lloyd (Ruth) Aune of Goodlettsville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Ervin Aune; and one sister, Elsie Larson.
The funeral was held this morning (Wednesday) at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake with Rev. Roger Hanson officiating.
Burial will be at the Vining Cemetery.
