Claude Brown, Dairyman, ~Dies at Age 79
Unadilla Forks�Claude E.Brown, 79, of Hackley St. a farmer who owned one of the oldest purebred Holstein Freisian herds in this area, died yesterday in Faxton-Hospital after a brief illness.
He was active in the Otsego County Farm Bureau, the GLF, and had been a local committeeman of the Dairymen's League for several years. Mr. Brown was a breeder of Holstein Freisian cattle.
He was born June 2, 1881, in the town of Plainfield, son of Alonzo and Ella Perkins Brown. He attended the area district school, West Winfield High School, and the Utica School of Commerce.
On Aug. 1. 1906, he married Lillian Wing in Lloydsville. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary in 1956.
Mr. Brown was a member and a deacon of the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son Russell W. Brown, West Winfield RD; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Robson. of Rome RD 2; a brother, William Brown, of Ithaca; five granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at Thursday from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfield, with the Rev. John Corey, pastor of the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Unadilla Forks. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.
