Walter Alfred French, 85, of Idaho Falls passed away May 19, 2008, at Mount Vernon Assisted Living Center after a battle with dementia. He was under the care of Creekside Hospice of Idaho Falls.

He was born September 27, 1922, in Roberts, Idaho to Alfred George French and Hazel Lavina Anderson French. He attended grade school and high school at Roberts and was active in sports and held several records for Roberts High. He met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Inise Esther Sucher, during his attendance at Roberts High. They were married October 30, 1941, and lived in Roberts and later moved to Idaho Falls. They had two daughters, Deanna French and Pamela French McCardle.

When he was young he helped his Father with the farm. He had a special sled dog that he loved and helped train for sled racing. He loved to go camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and bowling and played bridge and pinochle. He loved to go rock and crystal hunting with family and friends throughout the western states.

He worked for Westinghouse -- NRF at the INEL for 28 years. After he retired, he traveled with Inise and Bandit (his dog) to Arizona during the winter months and loved traveling in Montana and Idaho during the summertime until her death in March 1988. He traveled with Bandit to Lake Meade, Nevada, and Yuma, Arizona, during the winter and in the summer, traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia, and Seattle, Washington, to visit with his daughters and family.

He is survived by two daughters, Deanna French and Pamela (Jerry) McCardle; two grandsons, Richard (Kara) Bruce and Steve (Kami) Bruce; and three great-grandchildren, Riley Bruce, Emily Bruce and Henry Bruce. He was preceded in death by his spouse; parents; brother, Earl; and his dog, Bandit.

The family would like to thank Mount Vernon Assisted Living employees and Creekside Hospice for their help and support. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation to Bonneville Humane Society in Idaho Falls; or a donation to your favorite charity.
