He was a native of Yancey County and had lived in Buncombe County for 25 years. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.
Bascombe was survived by his wife; three daughters and a son; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Bell Edwards of Weaverville and Mrs. Elsie Whitted of Lexington; a brother, Cleve L. Honeycutt of Weaverville; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held on Thursday, May 26, 1977 at Locust Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Clell Fisher and Rev. Orlando Hawkins.
Burial: Church cemetery.
