Howard Leon "Man" Black was born March 20, 1930, at Clovis NM to John William and Nettie Celeste (Lee) Black and passed away September 12, 2010, at the age of 80. He was raised in New Mexico, Texas, and California before coming to Oklahoma in 1950 while working for Schlumberger Oilfield. He was married to Jean Tosh on April 1, 1950. They moved to Wyoming and in 1962 returned to Berlin OK where he started dairy farming, continuing until 1990. He worked for the Cooper West Agency for some 3 years before retirement. Howard was a member of the Dairyman's Association and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Black, of Elk City; children Randy French and wife Kelli of Columbus OH, Terry French and wife Betty of Sayre OK, Kay Higgins and husband Mike of Elk City, Vicki Bishop and husband Phil of Elk City, and Howard "Butch" Black, Jr., and wife Jacquie of Elk City; 22 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and brother Jess Black and wife Marie of Burns Flat OK.
