Abijah Garrett Warner was born on 19 January 1840 in Illinois, son of Alfred Warner and Almira Richardson. On 25 November 1850, he lived with his parents and siblings- John, Mary, James, Harriet, and Sarah lived in Northville, Lasalle County, Illinois. He had attended school in the previous year.

On 3 August 1860, Abijah lived with his parents and siblings John, Mary, James, Harriet, Sarah, and Thomas in Robinson, Ottawa County, Michigan. He was working as a farmer.

Abijah was living in Northville, Illinois when he enlisted as a Private in Company F of the 53rd Illinois Cavalry on 3 February 1862. He was mustered out, receiving a disability discharge, on 30 April 1863.

Abijah was married circa 1864 to Cornelia L. Ford. Cornelia was born on 9 April 1848 in Michigan. The family has not been located on the 1870 census.

On 15 June 1880, "Abidger" and Cornelia lived in Blair township, Grand Traverse County with five children- Mary, Alford, George, Frank, and Jessee. He was working as a fisherman while Cornelia was keeping house.

Abijah applied for a Civil War invalid's pension on 1 April 1886.

In 1890, Abijah was living near Mortimer, McMinn County, Tennessee. He reported that he suffered from a disease of the right eye as a result of his Civil War service.

On 14 June 1900, Abijah and Cornelia lived with five children- Alfred, Frank, Annie, Irma, and Nellie lived in Almira township, Benzie County. He worked as a logger, while his sons Alfred and Frank worked as teamsters.

In May 1910, the couple lived in Elmwood township, Leelanau County with a granddaughter Elda Warner and Abijah's brother James Warner. Abijah was working as a farmer.

On 12 January 1920, the couple lived at 1005 E. Front Street in Traverse City with their daughter Irma (Warner)Bronson. Irma was working as a waitress.

Abijah died from a cerebral hemorrhage on 15 September 1920 at 1005 E. Front Street in Traverse City. Cornelia then applied for a Civil War widow's pension on 21 October 1920.

Cornelia died on 9 August 1930 in Grand Traverse County.

Abijah and Cornelia are buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
